LeGarrette Blount Suspended for Season

Oregon has suspended LeGarrette Blount for the remainder of the season for his actions after the Boise State game.

In the short term, this destroys Oregon's chances at a Pac-10 title. Freshman LaMichael James will take over at running back, but he won't be nearly as effective as Blount. He's a smaller back which will change the style and approach of Oregon's running game for the remainder of the season.

In the long term, this destroys Blount's draft stock. With a good season he had a legitimate shot to climb as high as the 2nd round. He is a similar athlete to former Florida State running back Greg Jones, who's been a reliable fullback/short yardage back for the Jaguars since being drafted in 2004.

After his suspension, Blount has little chance of getting drafted earlier than the 7th round. He's clearly got talent, but it will be difficult to draft a player with his type of off-field issues given the emphasis Roger Goodell has placed on character.
